Manor, Texas; Open for Business!

Word is getting around that Manor, Texas is open for business.  The Manor Chamber of Commerce recently adopted the slogan “Come Grow with Us”.  We are pleased to report that a mix of small, medium and large businesses received the message including Walmart, Auto Zone, CVS Pharmacy and Walgreen’s.  We invite you to “Come Grow With Us” too.

One of the major factors driving growth in the Manor area is the Manor Expressway.  This, 6.2 mile stretch of US Hwy 290 is on track for completion in 2014.  The Expressway, a Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority Project, will triple the current capacity of US Hwy 290 between US 183 and SH130 opening the corridor that has had a 78% increase in demand since 1990.  The construction in progress has begun the process of opening the flood gates of prosperity into Eastern Travis County including Manor.  In addition to the boost from the Manor Expressway, other Manor area roads will be getting connectors and or facelifts thanks to the 2011 Transportation Bond which approved approximately 33 million dollars worth of projects. A complete description of these approved propositions can be viewed at http://www.co.travis.tx.us/tnr/bond_election_2011_documents.asp

The roadway improvements and the impending new mobility for residents and commuters is bringing the much desired growth to this small Eastern Travis County town.  Rich in agricultural history, Manor was established in 1872.  Until recently, growth has been slow.  Now, Manor is poised for positive growth.  In 2000, the City of Manor had approximately 1200 residents and in a little over a decade has grown to 5500 residents and 7700 students in the Manor Independent School District.

So what are these improvements bringing to Manor?  Growth and prosperity in the form of the three “R’s”;  (more) roadways, rooftops, and retail  Here is what you can expect to see in the near future in Manor.

Roadways.  In addition to the projects discussed previously, the Texas Department of Transportation is funding approximately 3.2 million in improvements which will straighten out Gregg Manor Lane and install two traffic signals (which will replace the current signal at US 290 and Gregg Manor).  The first signal will be at the new Gregg Manor West drive in front of Riata Ford and the second signal will be at US Hwy 290 and Lexington (entrance of Shadow Glen Golf Club).

Rooftops:  According to local developers more residential new construction has been completed or is underway in Manor area subdivisions in the first half of 2012, than all of 2011.

Retail:  In the coming month’s residents and visitors to Manor can expect to see dirt moving on various projects including:

    • CVS Pharmacy, Auto Zone, and a one acre strip/retail development at Gregg Manor West and US Hwy 290  (near Riata Ford) –
    • McDonald’s, Walgreens and  30,000 sq. ft. Retail Center at the northeast corner of US Hwy 290 & Lexington
    • A four acre development along Shadow Glen Blvd by OnAir Development for approximately 36,000 square feet of medical office building space at the northeast corner of US Hwy 290 & Shadow Glen Blvd
    • Walmart is slated to begin construction of the Manor store in October 2012 at the southwest corner of US Hwy 290 & FM 973
    • The Creative World Learning Center with 169 child capacity was completed in July 2012 and construction will begin on an orthodontist office in early fall 2012 in the Greater Texas Center on the south side of US Hwy 290.

In addition to the retail projects, the City of Manor has purchased property in the downtown area for the new Manor City Hall which is slated to begin construction in October 2012.  The design will improve existing structures and create new square footage for a total of 8700 square feet.

The Manor Chamber of Commerce and our member businesses welcome new business and embrace the new opportunities that that new business brings.  Our Chamber is working with the City, businesses and residents to help Manor grow in a way that foster community pride and a true sense of place. We invite you to “Come Grow with Us” too and join forces with us to build a bright future for Manor.  For more information about the Manor Chamber of Commerce and area businesses, please visit us online at manorchamberofcommerce.com or facebook.com/manorchamber.
